For real though, I don't get why anyone working in science in the 21st century would be anything other than anticapitalist. Or critical of it at the very least. It does nothing but make our lives difficult.

We're all constantly grovelling for funds. Important articles are hidden behind paywalls. We need to pay to get stuff published. And I'm so tired of hearing things like "yes we'd love to hire you, but we don't have any funding right now."

I am keybase.io/dansup on keybase. I forgot my password but just trust me.

The support CryptPad is getting on the Fediverse is amazing!

We're at 505 followers, and growing quickly. It looks like we'll surpass our birdsite account in a matter of weeks.

It feels good to imagine a future without reliance on proprietary networks!

CryptPad v2.20.0 (Upupa) is available, and features a first version of an admin panel, among other things. The full release notes are available on GitHub: github.com/xwiki-labs/cryptpad

Admins should review the notes carefully, as there are many changes!

Want to ship the new pixelfed.org on May 17th, exactly one year from when it was launched! I can't wait to share the url instead of screenshots 😁 #pixelfed

Pixelfed will be a year old in a few days.

I'm a high school dropout that has never taken any CS or computer classes.

Web development is just a hobby of mine, I work in the auto industry.

I'm so proud of this project, I never would have imagined that I could make something like this.

Thank you for helping me realize credentialism isn't so important as you think. ❤️ :pixelfed:

A reminder that just because there isn’t some big, evil company behind mastodon trying to monetize your interactions doesn’t mean that activity isn’t being tracked for various purposes.

Interesting discussion on the mastodon admin mailing list today about a university student running analytics in mastodon instances. Not malicious or really even concerning, but highlights the issue.

I made it clear a few days ago that there are limitations for commentsEnabled.

Instead of delaying it for months to engineer a techbro approved solution, we shipped it joining PeerTube as the only other implementation (I know of) that has this option.

As announced yesterday, cryptpad.fr is going down for some server maintenance. We'll be back shortly.

It looks like our popularity is starting to catch up with us. We've scheduled a bit of downtime for 9AM tomorrow (France time) for some server upgrades.

It shouldn't take long. Thanks in advance for your understanding!

Hugely important work here: wired.com/story/eva-galperin-s

Encrypted tooling gets a lot of attention, but there's a lot of effort needed to change norms, and especially to motivate laws that actually protect vulnerable demographics.

Sharks are older than trees. 🦈

The first plant species which can be considered a real tree is known as Archaeopteris, and it evolved about 350 million years ago.

The first sharks evolved 50 million years before that!

Just finished preparing and rehearsing my opening speech for the debate in Singapore this week. I will be defending the motion “Entrepreneurs today do more harm than good.”

This is my opening slide :)

You know what’s awesome? Essentially everyone with a computer has access to literally unbreakable encryption if they choose to learn how to use it. That’s an underrated accomplishment.
