We're working on adding colors for folders in CryptDrive (https://github.com/xwiki-labs/cryptpad/issues/383) and trying to decide on a color palette.
While there are lots of resources available for choosing small palettes which are accessible to people with colorblindness, we're having trouble finding larger ones (16-20 colors) which are still pleasant enough that people won't yell at us for being bad designers.
Can anyone point us in the right direction?
In the worst-case we choose bad colors and people who can't distinguish between them will have the same experience they currently have, but we'd much rather give 100% of seeing people an improved experience.
@cryptpad why not allow a selection of pallettes so people can choose the one that suits them, or use other hints alongside colour?
@moopet the colors will be visible to groups of people in shared folders. Someone might use a colorpicker to categorize things and unintentionally choose a palette which doesn't contrast well.
In a group of 20 people it's fairly likely that someone will be color-blind, so limiting the palette to accessible choices makes it easy for people to organize in an inclusive way.
I agree with having more hints, but we're taking this one step at a time.
"check the red folder" is guaranteed to happen, I was just hoping that we can make it so instead of "red" it's something more people can recognize.
It's possible there's no set of 16-20 colors that satisfies these constraints, I don't know, but I'd rather hear that answer from someone with firsthand experience before making a decision for them.
