For the sake of our privacy one thing should always be remembered: We should always look for free and open source alternatives of proprietary applications and softwares. #foss
@Kakeru I def agree with this 100% FOSS is the way to go. 🏆
@TheDoctor @Kakeru this is true. I would love to ditch windows for example but I'm a gamer 🤗🎮
@TheDoctor @Kakeru oh yeah? Do you game though?
@TheDoctor @Kakeru I will have to talk to u about this later! Merry Christmas 🎄 🎁!!
@TheDoctor @Kakeru is it hard to setup your graphics card or get drivers?
@Wetrix @Kakeru That depends somewhat on the distro you use. But in general it´s not a big deal. I´m using manjaro and drivers are just available in the standard repos. Nvidia drivers are proprietary so for some distros you have to jump through a few hoops. Still it is not a big deal especially if you are not new to linux.
@TheDoctor @Kakeru what is the best distro for a noob that wants to game without going through a nightmare with drivers etc 😅? Ubuntu?
@mistermonster @Kakeru @TheDoctor mint if what I used to run on my laptop it was awesome!
I got a matrix app. Not sure exactly what or how to join 🤔
@Wetrix @mistermonster @Kakeru This is rather a matter of taste. For a beginner I´d recommend one of the larger distros. Especially if you're coming from windows Mint is a good choice in my opinion but you can also pick Ubuntu, Fedora etc. The desktop environment doesn't matter just pick what suits you.
For gaming Pop!_OS is a good choice because driver setup. But at the end of the day you can game on all of them.

@TheDoctor @mistermonster @Kakeru thx for all these links and taking the time to put this all together! Much appreciated! 🙏🏻
I did try matrix tonight for about half an hour. I was immediately asked if I was a SJW in our privacy fed among other things 😆
I think I'll just stick to the fed. I'd spend too much time in there 🤣
@Wetrix @mistermonster @Kakeru Very welcome. I would also add that protondb.com for steam games is a great resource as well as lutris.net and the lutris app for (almost) everything else. Between those you should be able to play most games that are playable on Linux.
@Wetrix @mistermonster @Kakeru If you wanna join on matrix you need to pick a homeserver. This would be an obvious choice: https://privacytools.io/services/chat/
It doesn't matter much however because of federation. Please don't choose matrix.org otherwise you're good.
@Wetrix @Kakeru Sure, I'm a gamer after all. Half of the games I currently play run natively the other half via wine/proton.
