There is something I don't understand about #mastodon, care anyone to explain me?
There are different instances to which you can sign up, but when you watch the global timeline from two different accounts on different instancea, some toots are the same, but others are missing.
That means that you can miss toots or users deppending on what instance are you running? Then, how can you know what instance is the right for you?
@Vortax The federated timeline isn't an absolute entity, but rather one relative to the instance you're on.
It's made up of everyone your instance knows about and everyone on their respective instances.
So where as a lot of the Fediverse can get covered quite quickly, each different instance has its own different perspective on the Fediverse.
@ChrisWere
Oh, I see. Thanks for that. One quick last question if you don't mind: is every single toot available from any single instance? Or you can find some toots that cannot be reached from some instances, even if you are specifically searching for a hashtag?
@ChrisWere
I understand. Thank you!
@Vortax Personally, I have two Masto accounts. This one for more tech-based stuff and @ChrisWere for more UK specific stuff.
The timelines are slightly different and thus offer a slightly different experience depending on what I want to chat about.
