@RaeYcrep Always wanted to try this, but it looks too hard πŸ˜‚

folks: Has anybody taken PrimeOS for a spin? Any idea why the Date of birth and Gender fields are a mandatory part of the post install setup?

@RaeYcrep Actually, yes - that would have annoyed me as well. Like returning to your desk and you just know that somebody has switched your chair with an inferior one. Happened a lot...

Interesting infrastructure choice that. I do like the thin client approach (if it works properly). Used Citrix, Secure Global Desktop and, obviously, Unix terminal going to mainframe. But Chromebooks...I can see how that would work.

(brb - meeting. Back at 12:00)

@Yeet Nice to meet you! Yes, it certainly feels welcoming. Looking forward to some interesting discussions...

@Wetrix Awesome! Thanks for the heads up. Honestly, I couldn't ask for more. Moved away from Twitter as my feed was 95% irrelevant.

@RaeYcrep I do! In fact, we all have sit/stand desks by default. They look after us at my current place, although I have worked in hotdesk hell previously. Didn't bother me too much, as my desk had nothing on it, but sitting with my team wasn't always a given and that got annoying...

@RaeYcrep *waves* Morning Rae. Pretty much same situation here to be honest. Back in the office tomorrow, though...

@RaeYcrep Yes, was for you. I was writing it whilst in aforementioned conference call. Forgot to hit reply xD

Wow. Really sorry to hear that it was due to ill health. Apologies for prying but thank you for the honesty...

I work for a San Diego genetics company and for the most part it's pretty good. There are more video conferences and meetings than I'd like, but I'm remote managed so the options are pretty thin. We're quite different culturally, though.

If you don't mind me asking, what made you quit the corporate world? Had enough?

@RaeYcrep I don't usually have this much free time, but I've got an afternoon of meetings with San Diego and I'm waiting for them to wake up and come online. They're 8 hours behind, so any time now I guess!

Let me know how you get on with Grim Dawn. I can talk gaming & music until the cows come home xD

@RaeYcrep I mean, PoE was enjoyable at first, but I found I spent more time fiddling around with my character and gear than progressing through the story and killing mobs.

I'd recommend a quick YouTube search to see what Grim Dawn is all about. Base game + 2 DLC packs (Ashes of Malmouth & Forgotten Gods), which added new classes and content and if you can justify getting them - definitely do. The Necromancer class in GD is amazing but isn't part of the base game.

It's also a massive time sink

@RaeYcrep I love a good single player ARPG. I tried Path of Exile, but found it overly complicated: too much to micro manage. Torchlight 2 was good, but the loot had class restrictions and actively blocked you from using an item if you weren't of the appropriate class. I hate that. Grim Dawn blew me away. Very much an homage to Diablo/Diablo 2. There is a main quest but you're not on rails, tonnes of loot, loads of viable class combos and not bogged down with min-maxing. Worth a look, definitely

@RaeYcrep You know, I wouldn't even know where to start. I hear Diablo II runs on Windows 10, but I've never tried.

I'm no Blizzard fan, but I'd probably buy D2 if it was refreshed to run on modern hardware. I do miss that game - played a load of it back in the day. Didn't really like Diablo 3, but I must have played close to 2000 hours of Grim Dawn, which is impressive seeing as it's a single player game.

@WorldWideWebWizard Just discovered your blog. It's excellent, thank you for writing it!

@RaeYcrep Well, ever since Valve introduced Proton support, I've been able to play most of my Steam collection with the minimum of tinkering. It's a lot, lot easier now to just click 'Play' and have the Windows game just work. Really impressed with it honestly.

The drama divided a goth community which really ought to have stuck together. It just caused in-fighting and needless bickering. Events are scarce enough in the UK as it is. Still attended, but completely ignored the nonsense.

@RaeYcrep Haha! You've just summed up one of my early jobs when I moved out of the North West xD First foray into Unix was at Uni in 1996. Professionally, 2000. Although I don't hate Windows, I just don't have much use for it day-to-day, other than a gaming platform.

@RaeYcrep Hello there! Yeah, it's a shame what happened to WGW. Looking at what it is now compared to what it used to be makes me kind of sad. I hope they can reconcile their differences with Tomorrow's Ghosts festival & Scarborough Borough Council and move forward.

Goth, Biotech sysadmin, lives in Norwich UK. Interested in Goth Rock, Deathrock, Post Punk and some metal.

Find me at Tomorrow's Ghosts festival in Whitby every 6 months.

Looking for like-minded folk to talk Goth, tech, gaming, beer, football, astronomy, martial arts or anything else that isn't politics-driven.

1st day on Mastodon. Hoping for a much better experience than I had over at the bird-themed one...
