#Introductions Goth, Biotech sysadmin, lives in Norwich UK. Interested in Goth Rock, Deathrock, Post Punk and some metal.
Find me at Tomorrow's Ghosts festival in Whitby every 6 months.
Looking for like-minded folk to talk Goth, tech, gaming, beer, football, astronomy, martial arts or anything else that isn't politics-driven.
@RaeYcrep Well, ever since Valve introduced Proton support, I've been able to play most of my Steam collection with the minimum of tinkering. It's a lot, lot easier now to just click 'Play' and have the Windows game just work. Really impressed with it honestly.
The drama divided a goth community which really ought to have stuck together. It just caused in-fighting and needless bickering. Events are scarce enough in the UK as it is. Still attended, but completely ignored the nonsense.
@UnixAnt Super strange with the drama. Because I have never met a more inclusive or welcoming crowd than a goth or metal crowd.
Talking of compatibility I play a lot of Diablo, still have the original games and played a lot of LAN on them. UNTIL I think Win 7? For the longest time I kept a Win XP laptop going just for the backwards compatibility. But the less said about Battle.net the better.
@RaeYcrep You know, I wouldn't even know where to start. I hear Diablo II runs on Windows 10, but I've never tried.
I'm no Blizzard fan, but I'd probably buy D2 if it was refreshed to run on modern hardware. I do miss that game - played a load of it back in the day. Didn't really like Diablo 3, but I must have played close to 2000 hours of Grim Dawn, which is impressive seeing as it's a single player game.
@UnixAnt Diablo is my gaming bubble wrap. Smash my way through, instant gratification. Got it for the Switch and it's fantastic to play it like that. Works really well at a handheld level. Never played Grim Dawn but always looking for something in the same ilk as Diablo.
@RaeYcrep I love a good single player ARPG. I tried Path of Exile, but found it overly complicated: too much to micro manage. Torchlight 2 was good, but the loot had class restrictions and actively blocked you from using an item if you weren't of the appropriate class. I hate that. Grim Dawn blew me away. Very much an homage to Diablo/Diablo 2. There is a main quest but you're not on rails, tonnes of loot, loads of viable class combos and not bogged down with min-maxing. Worth a look, definitely
@UnixAnt Ah Path of Exile was recommended to me. Might give that a miss, so. Someone mentioned the Devil May Cry games were also along the same lines.
I'll get Grim Dawn on Steam. Give it a bash.
@RaeYcrep I mean, PoE was enjoyable at first, but I found I spent more time fiddling around with my character and gear than progressing through the story and killing mobs.
I'd recommend a quick YouTube search to see what Grim Dawn is all about. Base game + 2 DLC packs (Ashes of Malmouth & Forgotten Gods), which added new classes and content and if you can justify getting them - definitely do. The Necromancer class in GD is amazing but isn't part of the base game.
It's also a massive time sink
@UnixAnt I have no bother with time sinks. As evidence; my day titting about on Mastodon.
@RaeYcrep I don't usually have this much free time, but I've got an afternoon of meetings with San Diego and I'm waiting for them to wake up and come online. They're 8 hours behind, so any time now I guess!
Let me know how you get on with Grim Dawn. I can talk gaming & music until the cows come home xD
@UnixAnt I am so glad I am not in the corporate world any more!
I cheated when it came to the US as I would often be on nights (blessing in disguise as it meant my local managers wouldn't be in the office to pester me).
@UnixAnt I would be on Linux if I could really be sure I could tit about with the games I use without the headache. Since not being around stuff like that professionally any more I have become lazy.
It was a shame about WGW! I went just before drama kicked off. I used to live in York so I don't know why I didn't go more often. Saw the drama; backed away.
