@bhtooefr Missed the part where you said eink, sorry. Good luck with Web browsing and maps on an eink tablet.

@bhtooefr Just a couple suggestions.
Flash a privacy-respecting ROM like Lineage OS.
Firefox is extremely insecure, this is only amplified on Android. Use Bromite.
For some light games try Vector Pinball from F-Droid is you like pinball at all.

Anyone here use Molly? I've heard a lot about it and just wanted some opinions.

(To be extremely clear, I am not referring to the substance/drug, I'm referring to the Signal client.)

Would it be great to have a platform with no censorship? Sure! But that isn't as simple as people make it out to be. The reality is that these companies are liable for many of their user's actions if they go unmoderated, and things like storming the capital are extremely serious and have to be actioned against. Free speech, while nice, has never been an option at any point in history really, not if you were a citizen, a ruler, whomever. Just now people have a platform to complain about it.

I don't think trying to popularize a platform like Mastodon is good either, it just worsens masto and makes it so nobody really wins. People just need to become less addicted to social media. I knew people who genuinely had 14h on Twitter per day (not an exaggeration.) People like that will get politically swayed just by seeing the same anti-trump or pro-trump stuff no matter what platform they're on. Also things like Masto certainly won't scale well with the public, at least theoretically

I'm not sure Parler is the app to take a stance in defending but to each their own. Free speech isn't dead, it's just difficult on big platforms that have extremely transparent since the beginning about censorship and political bias -- I genuinely have no idea why just now people are getting mad about this. You "read" the terms, you agreed to them, you've seen how transparent they've been about it, you know the political standing of the owner and devs, what else are you really looking for

@Wetrix @nikolal Not sure I'd classify large scale layoffs and deep seeded financial problems with their not non-profit counterpart company (who was the one who got the funding at the end if the day) as "doing okay" but I suppose it is partially subjective. How is Brave or especially Ungoogled Chromium "the [...] two evils"?

@nikolal Yeah Firefox's longevity hasn't been looking great in recent times (especially with their google deal).

Glad to hear that you like the guide, thank you!

Second blog post just went up now! It's an in-depth guide to hardening Ungoogled Chromium that I have worked on alongside the Firefox guide for a long time now.

Enjoy!

@Wetrix Sounds interesting! Are the podcasts still up or did you take them down for privacy reasons? Either way send me a link if you get into writing or podcasts!
Cheers

@Wetrix Thanks! A podcast sounds awesome! If you end up making the podcast send me the link, I'd love to listen to it as I go about my day! 👍

Wow almost 100 views on my first ever blog post, that's insane. Thank you all so much for the support! There's more coming soon!

@ParmuTownley If you can keep it, then the objectively better option is tqo have 100k now and then invest it for compound interest, over the same five year period you'll have made much more money than you would have otherwise, off of just interest alone.

@syntax I would use VeraCrypt, you can benchmark it on the PI but any low-grade encryption should be good enough without noticing any large speed degradation. AES-256 is lightning fast, and while not the most secure it's enough for another layer. Cryptomator could also work if you don't have much experience with VeraCrypt.

Isn't the premise of TikTok so strange? What are essentially children, doing provocative dances to lyrically sexually implicative songs. Not just like doing it among friends as a joke or something either, they're recording it and posting it publicly on a platform owned by a Chinese company with known ties to the Chinese Communist Party. I don't know, just something about that doesn't sit right with me.
