@gritnot I think it would certainly be hard. You'd certainly have to disconnect from your phone almost entirely. No Signal, no texting, no masto, etc. I know I'd have a hard time without Signal. If you go for it then I'd be really interested to see how you fare!

@Wetrix I agree but its the only semi-private browser that is actually secure that can play widevine protected content.

@Wetrix Ah just looked it up, that looks fun! Only a couple dollars as well, seems like a pretty great deal.
Oh yeah motherboards can do that, that sucks though.

It's "based on block chain technology". Vague terms and marketing with no elaboration. Requires you to create an account. No information on what payment methods are accepted before creating an account. They say that they can and will take down accounts if they break ToS but this in direct contradiction to their own previous marketing which states "no logs". High cost unless you go for a long-term lock-in contract.

There are other things but there are the main ones.

@Wetrix @Obscurequokka
Blatantly under Chinese development as they have broken English all over there website as they have Chinese characters in their page title, broken English all over their website, and a Chinese User Manual that has only been translated to English. There is little to no information about them online. Their only contact email is through outlook, the only other way to contact them is through telegram.

For a browser that markets itself as sort of "the out of the box, everyman's browser for privacy", they sure do have a pretty blatant disregard for user privacy out of the box. Look no further than the settings to see all of the anti-privacy features that not only do they bundle in but they enable by default. Hate that I even have to use it for anything.

@Wetrix Played it from like 2013 to 2019 lol

What killed your mobo? Just age orr?

That sounds fun - hmu if you ever want to play!

@Wetrix That sounds awesome! Are you thinking about JurassiCraft by any chance? Looking forward to the screenshots haha.

Have an amazing rest of your day!

@Wetrix @Obscurequokka Even the action of turning on privacy.resistfingerprinting in Firefox or whatever in Chrome/ium increases your fingerprint. Also in Firefox it really just makes you look like you're running a different version and you're on Windows. Still doesn't stop the fact of fingerprinting with IP, about:config tweaks, setting tweaks, dnt headers, etc.

Btw use about Mullvad instead of squirrel VPN (couple of reasons I won't get into unless you want me to.)

@gritnot Well I mean also .onions have little to no benefit to the user, they're to keep the person hosting the service anonymous.

Hey thanks haha. I've had it for a while, just a series of inside jokes all kind of combined lol. Totally agreed, a lot of pretty bad things have happened in my life this year but there have been some not so bad parts too, like being with family (safely) and working on some things for the community. Ah that sounds great, if you want to do that you totally should! I think people here are a lot more welcoming to that sort of content than some other platforms (looking at you Twitter.) πŸ‘

@Wetrix That sounds awesome! I think I've played that mod you're talking about, even used to spin up servers for it for a few close friends.

@__h2__ Also just saying, when will they ever implement a non-UDP call system like Molly (a fork of the Signal client) already has, it makes using the app over Tor possible.

@Obscurequokka I think trust, in maybe less than a dictionary term, is just to believe someone, their integrity, truthfulness, and in what they're doing. you don't require a group to do that. You might trust your family, a friend, or whomever, you don't just trust them because a large group of people other than yourself does. I think trust and privacy, while sometimes overlapping and conflicting in different ways, both fundamentally need to work together.

UGC amazing security and great privacy from the browser but certainly no anonymity and the whole system of plugins is obtuse, Firefox isn't private or secure no matter what you do, etc. So theres no way around it - like you said, common sense is really the only way to effectively and reliably stay safe.

Stay safe and have an amazing rest of your day!

HTML5 can also give a lot of information on your resolution, how your browser renders elements, etc, all things that can be collected and matched to a database with or without a VPN and are done in plain HTML+CSS. There's no silver bullet, Tor has anonymity (if you take other steps) but its security is some of the worst in a browser,

@Wetrix @Obscurequokka Just a few things to mention in the off case that you didn't know. VPNs offer very little in the way of privacy, and hardly mask your IP (they're full of problems and things you have to do if you don't want to leak your IP,also the company can see everything). Also of note is the fact that every website you visit now is in possession of your (almost always) unique browser fingerprint. JS isn't the only thing with exploits, CSS has them and so does just stock HTML5.
