Alright so I've been thinking about this for a while and I think I've finally got it planned out. The TL;DR is, imagine a set of privacy respecting services, out of the 14 eyes, all encrypted, with minimal data stored on servers, is censorship resistant, and more. This is what I'm going to be trying to build if I can get enough funding and support for it, which at the moment isn't looking great - if any of you would like to support this, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you all so much!

@Wetrix aw that's adorable! I do actually - I had wanted a dog for a long time but due to some situational issues it never worked out until recently. A bit ago some things changed though, and I got a Shiba Inu just this year! ๐Ÿ˜„

Working on a privacy website featuring guides, suggestions, information, etc. I've been using Jekyll with a certain theme but it just doesn't look great so I'm just wondering - do any of you have any static website theme ideas? Doesn't have to be for Jekyll, it can be for any of them, thanks a ton in advance.

@weltsnake SimpleLogin is nice but they have even less free aliases and their paid plans are much more expensive, although they are more advantageous in some ways. I'm all for supporting developers of projects you like, but I don't think they should essentially make their program almost impossible to truly use to any extent if you don't give them your money, with no way around it. I dunno, maybe that's just me.

@weltsnake Yeah same - I've got a few that I don't have under AnonAddy but they're just in old gmails that I don't use anymore. I hate that anonaddy is locked to no more than 20 emails unless you want to cough up money. I mean I know its cheap but still - kinda sucks.

@utzer select the file, click on a tab that says something like sharing or groups, type in the name of the person you want to share it with, click on them. You're done.

@andreas Ghostery, a company exposed for misuse of user data, is making a privacy browser on a weak foundation, powered by a tech giant's anti privacy service, Bing.

@Wetrix I mean I wouldn't deem them a "big promiser" per say, they just seem to break all of the promises they make and when they get caught their response is always just pretty much "uh..well..that's your fault and we aren't accountable." and because of their arcane policies you can't even sue them for anything.

@Wetrix Wait - what? You mean Discord doesn't honor their logistically next to impossible promises? The company that is even worse than Facebook in many ways but nobody knows about their issues so they'll never get called out on it, so they just keep pushing the boundaries of how far they can go? That Discord? Couldn't be..

All of the frame rate trickery also goes for commercials, getting ad companies to play their ads at 120 FPS recorded then played back at 60 to still give that crisp motion blur on people's non 4k TV so they still want the 4k TV that the company is advertising. Pretty smart.

In the stores, they play content at 60FPS, making the TV look smoother than your TV at home, therefore making your brain perceive it as higher quality due to the fact that you've probably never seen video recorded in 120 FPS played back at 60 FPS (which is what generally gives it that crisp motionblur). So despite what any rep tells you, no, that's not "just how 4k looks", like always it's part of their trick to get you to spend more money.

Don't get fooled by the in-store displays, people think they'll take home a TV and it will look like that. It won't. Ideal lighting for the lowest shine/reflection, mounted at a good angle, and the big thing - refresh rate. Almost all modern TV whether its live, on Netflix, on Hulu, wherever, generally plays at 24 FPS. This is the reasonable framerate to conserve bandwidth while making it still look like normal motion.

@Wetrix 2160p is just 4k, they're the same resolution just listed differently.

There's a lot below and while its still simplified, the TLDR is, 4k is awesome but certainly not as good as it seems in stores.

I have two 1080p monitors, one 4k monitor, and two 4k TVs, I see an insane difference on the TVs compared to 1080p like it's a little crazy the first time you see it, but not so much on the monitors due to the smaller screen.

@nemo 100%, like most people on here are overly defensive over whatever OS they're using and refuse to listen to any other point of view (even seen people do it with Windows 10) so thank you for not being like that.
Yeah looking back I get what you mean, I can see that it looked that way.
Thank you so much for your kindness and civility! ๐Ÿ˜
