@kravietz I mean I know this isn't the point of the article but you could just not commit crimes.. The reason that Butcoin, Monero, and to a lesser extent Etherium and any other crypto gets a bad name is because of all of the cybercrime that revolves around them. I know its an inevitability but still.

@syntax You can. There are two was to do it, the easy way, and the proper way. The easy way is enable MIME requests in chrome://flags then go to crxtractor and type in the URL of the plugin you want, it will then give you the option to install it. The proper way involves getting the google crx install link and appending your version number and plugin ID. If you want to follow this route let me know and I'll reply with the necessary URL.

@weltsnake Crypt.ee is pretty nice as well for another option, from what I can see they take privacy very seriously.

@kravietz I've loved GrapheneOS for a while but I've experienced the same. If you talk to him long enough its more than clear that he's a very depressed and pessimistic person. He's discussed how he's very worried about the project and it's lifespan because of the thousands of dollars he's spent in hardware and the fact he can't live comfortably off of what he's making now from it. He's certainly abrasive to say the least but I find it hard not to cut the guy some slack.

@Wetrix OK, I understand that flash is dying anyway soon but that's not even the point. This is just another example of Windows users being hopelessly at the mercy of Microsoft and what they deem acceptable and in-date for their ironically insanely bloated OS that has code from Windows 98.

@gudishvibes I don't have the hardware yet, that's a large part of the reason I'm trying to gain the money. Once I have the funds to get the hardware or VPS then I am planning on switching to a primarily donation-based model.

@Wetrix Hm that might be an idea - not sure where I could find a go fund me esc website with crypto donations but I'll look around, thanks for the idea!

I've been looking to host some services and keep them as privacy respecting as possible to give back to the community who has helped me so much, so I've already worked out some things but my biggest roadblock so far of the monetary aspect. So my question is kind of this, do any of you know of a way that I could raise some initial funding to get the project off the ground? If you do I'd love to hear about them and I'd greatly appreciate any input. Thanks so much, have an amazing rest of your day!

@gid@fedi.oneiris.me I couldn't agree more. I'd like to think of myself as more technologically savvy than the average person but setting up nextcloud in its non snap form is a literal nightmare. I hope that the community can make progress to ease the entry to self hosting for new and possibly less experienced people.

@Phate6660 Oh I see - quoting it in what I assume was mockery is a bit childish but yeah, thanks for letting me know.

@sir I mean doesn't X have more telemetry and tracking and worse security than Wayland? I dunno, different priorities maybe. What makes X so much better than Wayland to you?

@jeff been using gnome and Wayland with obs not thinking anything of it for the past year - works fine.

Domains are lowkey expensive - like I wanted to get a second one to do like a blog thing on but geez they're like $15 per which adds up quick.

@pcrock If only Linux could actually be secure - still might be a cool distro though, good luck!

The same shit will happen no matter who the president is. It can be Biden, Trump, or as you said, a rock painted blue. The president isn't the one calling the shots 80% of the time. They're just like the spokesperson, yeah they've got power but not as much as people give them credit for. None of them will be good - they both make awful and inappropriate comments, Biden brags about assisting in the patriot act. They're both awful, here's to hoping there'll be someone worth voting for next time.

@dajbelshaw Element or anything else on the Matrix protocol might be more suitable. Keeps almost all of the perks of Discord but is end to end encrypted and just like mastodon allows you to host your own home server to ensure his data is safeguarded.
