@Wetrix Graphene is the most private and secure mobile OS available at the moment. It is Android but ungoogled and immensely hardened for privacy and security. It even beats out the security of iOS. Now this is a gross oversimplification of the project, but I run GrapheneOS on my 3a XL and absolutely love it.

@Wetrix I mean look at Graphene and Calyx (I know they aren't for tablets but your response didn't seem to be solely about tablet either), Graphene is more secure than iOS and innumerably more private, Calyx is less secure but still nothing to scoff at and even then is still way more private. Also just because a project is open source doesn't mean that its less secure, it's actually strongly the opposite. Just wanted to put that out there, enjoy your tablet and have a great rest of your day!

@shebang Alright, thought you were talking about jitsi and signal being too difficult to use, my apologies - I'll delete my reply.

@glours I wish /e/ was better for privacy - or even just a better ROM in general. Still nice that they're trying to bring at least a bit better privacy (at the sacrifice of innumerable security) on Android to the mainstream.

@Wetrix Nice! What made you go with an iOS tablet over an android tablet of some kind (with or without a custom ROM)?

@Wetrix Where do you get these photos lol
They're all of different people every time - bit odd lol

@nikolal I'm not sure myself, that said doesn't the Arch Wiki have a crazy in depth page about GPU passthrough?

@weltsnake Thanks lol - they've all been pretty good about using privacy respecting things instead of what they were used to (Signal, Linux, Nextcloud, etc.). I did a lot of research before actually setting it all up, so going in I had a basic idea of the steps and what I was doing, that said, Chris Titus Tech, The Linux Gamer, and Wolfgang's Channel all have tutorials on it that I referred to at various points in the process and I think they're all great. Good Luck!

@weltsnake Yeah ATM I've just got an almost ancient laptop running it and I have it hooked up to my domain. My whole family and I use it and its had no problems so far. It's a pretty simple process if you're willing to take an hour or two, and I think even if you have zero self hosting experience you can do it. Just make sure you can port forward and use port 80 and 443(?), those are the ports that make your server available from anywhere that's not your own network.

@weltsnake Doesn't the Apple App store as it stands now essentially disallow that from ever being available or even a possibility? I think their app rules essentially ban that sort of application iirc.

@weltsnake Self hosted nextcloud is honestly wayyy better than Google Drive in every way lol.

@anarchiv Hm. Alright. I'll have to do my own research first but if that's true then there goes the only good mastodon client on F-Droid which would be pretty disappointing.

@ohSnapDude @distrotube@mastodon.technology For some people I'd imagine the laptop really hits the mark, but I don't see it even being an option for most people with bad 720p YouTube playback, I've heard some people are already having really really high temperatures, etc.. It could be better if you flashed ALARM (Arch Linux for ARM) to it, but that again puts it further out of the reach of general consumers.

@anarchiv I mean I hate Nazis but I can't imagine that's the only thing that was on the list they removed.
