It doesn't matter if you consider yourself a "content creator" or if you upload videos to #YouTube once in a while for whatever reason.

Please consider also uploading your content to #PeerTube [joinpeertube.org/], whatever instance you'd like. I assume if you're sharing your content, you probably want it to reach as many people as possible.

Let's populate the #fediverse with good and original content 📽️ 📺

@gadonias question: does peertube has incentives to upload like youtube does? Incentive being ad revenue.

@ParmuTownley I don't think so, but I'm not sure... You know what? I get it, there are a lot of people making a living out of creative content and, how can a company propose a paid partnership with a content creator that only posts his/her videos in a platform with less than 5% (it's just a guess) of YouTube's reach?

At the same time, it's our responsibility to redirect traffic to #PeerTube instances. Posting and sharing good content that has been made available there.

@gadonias @ParmuTownley has a link on their landing page to their account. I find this extremely revolting. The one non-profit org that we expect to demonstrate some integrity & lead by example has suckered for a few bucks.

@resist1984 @ParmuTownley I wouldn't say @eff is on #YouTube just for the "few bucks". Most of the people on decentralized alternatives are already aware of privacy issues. Meanwhile, there is a huge number of users of those mainstream platforms who's still on "I have nothing to hide" mode. I may be wrong but I think keeping an account at those places helps steering these people away from privacy-invading services.

@gadonias @eff @ParmuTownley RMS gives good advice in this situation: stallman.org/facebook-presence. That article should be generalized. Ideally, would publish ~20% of their videos on & 100% of them on , and note on their Youtube page that peertube is the official source. And certainly there's no excuse for having a youtube link on their website which leads ppl astray.

@resist1984 @gadonias @eff @ParmuTownley and things should be posted to FOSS/freedom/privacy-respecting channels first by days, or a week, as the case may warrant, so people learn that those channels are actually more legitimate in practical terms.

@ITwrx @ParmuTownley @gadonias @eff indeed, delaying Youtube publications is also a good idea. I just don't get why doesn't take a common sense approach to FB, Twitter, Google, considering Bruce Schneier is on the EFF board. Is his influence too minimal, or is he not even trying?

@resist1984 @ParmuTownley @gadonias @eff i suspect these decisions were just left to the marketing people, and their focus may be somewhat singular.
