@CodedBias There is no universal solution to digital security or privacy. Each of us must assess our unique assets, and adversaries. EFF’s Surveillance Self Defense guide is a good place to start building the knowledge that can help you do that. ssd.eff.org/

If you want to see a specimen of terrible pop combined with a blatantly obvious narrative force fed to you with zero self-awareness watch on
It's super entertaining, regardless of your beliefs, but infuriating if you come from a research background.

While we are on the topic of video games and privacy/mass surveillance, has someone played the new Watch Dogs? The early reviews said it was buggy, wondering if it's better now with patches.

I am obviously concerned about privacy, but boy is there so much tinfoilhatism going on here.
Ideological purity (privacy in this case) needs to be balanced with accessibility to the general populace.

Enjoying Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
Much better than the grinding of Odyssey.
Similar feel to Origins

Sometimes you have to sit down yourself and honestly look into that mirror and ask your self "who's really in control of me? Do I control others or do they control me?"

People only have as much power over you as you give them

If you let someone affect your emotions, they are controlling you. You have given them control by letting them affect you, your emotions and state of mind.

Be aware of this. Do not let others control you because of your lack of SELF CONTROL.

Be aware. Be in control.

"is that where you find your friends? 4chan?"
"no i'm not on 4chan"
"what website is it?"
"it's a federation of websites running software based on a common protocol"
"is it parler?"
"it's called the fediverse"
*she looks it up*
"everything i'm reading says they have a nazi problem"

"correct" isn't even the right word.
Sometimes it is just a harmless misunderstanding of ones position, because you know what, it's difficult to communicate on microblogging platforms!
Intellectual humility is to acknowledge those differences and cordially engage in good faith.
There is a human on the other side.
We often forget that.

But then, I've had such a conversation here with the very kind @ThreeBadgersInATrenchcoat
So maybe it is possible πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I want a social media where people make hesitant, timid arguments and then are politely corrected by folks who know more and then everyone smiles and goes about their merry ways.
Too much to be true?

No country for milquetoast takes.
Every one either has to be super passionate or not speak at all.
Points for not yielding even if you are obviously wrong 😐
Bonus if you can use an ad-hominem or absurdly reductive version of your opponent.

@enigmatico this is because almost everyone prefer comfort than security/quality/freedom.

You can say the same thing about gaming development, graphics design, sound, life and everything

People doesn't care a lot about security, freedom and more. They care if something is convenient

I got a notification that updated their policy.
Anyone got a TL;DR?

This kinda blows a hole in the argument that- "Humans are good, it's just that the algorithms are forcing us into bubbles."
OR
"People like to hide behind screens to be keyboard warriors."
Reddit/Mastodon/Twitter are anonymous and algorithm free to various degrees.
FB is algo driven but not anonymous and has the same issues.
Maybe the problem isn't tech but humans.

Please do not mistake this for a political statement.
I am on a tech-oriented instance, and am still seeing such kinds of conversations.
