music conspiracy theory

All pop music nowadays is extremely generic and overproduced.
No wonder record producers want to play it safe and take the friends and family route instead of hitting the road and discovering a true diamond in the rough

music conspiracy theory

Are there any major examples where an organically discovered artist, with no connections, just doing regular small indie gigs, became a celebrity music sensation?
None
I found out about half of them via YouTube recommendations or Twitter trends, both of whom are extremely likely to be paid promotions by the record labels.

Tinfoil hat time
Most, if not all, modern (2010 onwards) pop artists are just trust fund kids or made a Faustian bargain with the record labels. 1/2

I would like Samsung a lot more if they were not so hellbent on recreating every facet of the Google suite but somehow doing a worse job.

Happy 4th of July from the United States 🇺🇸 🙂
It is possible to love your country and stand up for and for all

I really enjoy the toots by
@stux and @thor
They make a welcoming, happier and interesting place to be.
Feel free to given them a follow 😊

@The_Quantum_Alpha I am conflicted about this.
On one hand I understand what she is trying to say. We need to be more compassionate and understanding as it’s a new and constantly evolving space.
But I am also wary of “there are people with more suffering than you” argument which makes people feel guilty for their problems not being serious enough.
It’s a tricky situation

mental health

There seems to be a rise in the diagnoses of in the US, curiously correlated with the rise of big pharma and drugs like Adderall.
So are we becoming more distractable? Is it a result of more awareness? Or is it the result of collusion between the medical providers, insurance and pharmaceutical companies?
I ask this as someone who has been diagnosed with by a professional psychologist.

@toni
Thank you!
I am struggling with it literally right this second.
Most of social media makes me feel my experiences and pains are invalid because of my privilege.

@yellowbeard
I agree. There is a lot of corporate brigading and bandwagoning that happens whenever an issue gains prominence

@josemanuel
Fair.
The concept you are describing sounds a lot like the Overton window.
I am conflicted on the issue. I get it, it’s the hardliners that make the moderates more palatable.
I just wish we as a society were less combative and more open to discussion, which probably is a naïve ideal in itself.

@z428
Exactly!
I am passionate about lot of issues and genuinely wish people would see the world my way. But I understand that not everyone feels passionately about all issues, and yet they can be open to making small incremental changes if we meet them where they are.

@anonimno
Let’s take WhatsApp for instance.
It is end-to-end encrypted.
FB can’t read your messages.
Only the metadata.
Now you can argue (in good faith) that Fb has a shady record of privacy. But WhatsApp inherently isn’t unsecure.

@anonimno
There is a large amount of difference between saying WhatsApp, Facebook and Viber are privacy nightmares vs bashing people from using Signal instead because they don’t use Matrix/ whatever the latest most obscure flavor is that requires flashing Linux on your phone and setting up a VPN or jumping through hoops.
We gotta meet people where they are

Lot of accounts here on not only engage in assigning guilt-by-association to every software but are also not helping the community with their hostility. The internet is nasty enough, we need to be nice and understanding to others.
Otherwise, it’s just like the big blue bird all over again.
