In the past 48 hours I've seen "If you use a tiling window manager you're probably a racist toxic fossbro", "if you support FOSS you're likely a liberal or a toxic fossbro", "If you use emacs you're part of the problem" and uh...

Can we just stop putting people in bins based on what tools they use and, more likely, what they had available to them when they first learned how to interact with tech?

Y'all stressing me out because I've seen these funny little takes go viral and become zeitgeist material.

Interesting
Do you have a link so that I can read up more on that?

The pandemic often reminds me of Pablo Neruda and his poem titled "Keeping Quiet"

That's one thing that Google+ got it right.
You could choose who you shared your content with in the form of "Circles"
Sad that it never really gained popularity.
FB has it too in forms of lists I think but it's very clunky to manage.

As someone who grew up with
"separation of concerns" being drilled into my head, I have a visceral reaction against writing javascript in html or "components" or whatever.
But that is also the reason why I left webdev, the changes are too fast for me to keep up with.
At the end of the day it is a tool, and if it does what you want it to, then it's all good.

Not sure how accurate this is, I didn't fact check it. But it honestly wouldn't surprise me given the rather advanced behaviors I've seen from animals, especially elephants, in the past.

has anyone out here also transitioned away from a tech career? what was your experience? what industry did you switch to? (feel free to RT)

I keep thinking about the dynamic in the
when Hamilton says to Burr
"If you stand for nothing, what will you fall for?"
It's good drama and a mic drop line and all, but is that statement substantive?
Do we always need to have a hard stand about everything?
Not knowing anything else about Burr outside the musical, wasn't he eventually vindicated by surviving and being elected as the Vice President?

Good ideas.
I am fine with the server having my image, my uses are non-personal, non-sensitive anyway.
It's the metadata harvesting, ad profiles, cookies and IP tracking that really piss me off.

Any recommendations for image/file hosting?
Looking for a privacy respecting imgur equivalent.

Having said that, there does need to be a larger conversation on how these AI driven objects are trained and the data required for the process.
Just coz I mute my puck, doesn't mean the device won't track and harvest the data from other users.
