Sometimes you have to sit down yourself and honestly look into that mirror and ask your self "who's really in control of me? Do I control others or do they control me?"

People only have as much power over you as you give them

If you let someone affect your emotions, they are controlling you. You have given them control by letting them affect you, your emotions and state of mind.

Be aware of this. Do not let others control you because of your lack of SELF CONTROL.

Be aware. Be in control.

@chrism Thanks for the response.
What's it about? How are you finding it so far?

"is that where you find your friends? 4chan?"
"no i'm not on 4chan"
"what website is it?"
"it's a federation of websites running software based on a common protocol"
"is it parler?"
"it's called the fediverse"
*she looks it up*
"everything i'm reading says they have a nazi problem"

"correct" isn't even the right word.
Sometimes it is just a harmless misunderstanding of ones position, because you know what, it's difficult to communicate on microblogging platforms!
Intellectual humility is to acknowledge those differences and cordially engage in good faith.
There is a human on the other side.
We often forget that.

But then, I've had such a conversation here with the very kind @ThreeBadgersInATrenchcoat
So maybe it is possible πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I want a social media where people make hesitant, timid arguments and then are politely corrected by folks who know more and then everyone smiles and goes about their merry ways.
Too much to be true?

No country for milquetoast takes.
Every one either has to be super passionate or not speak at all.
Points for not yielding even if you are obviously wrong 😐
Bonus if you can use an ad-hominem or absurdly reductive version of your opponent.

@Wetrix Also you said killing off competitors.
Amazon Web services is not a competitor to Parler.
Plus, unless you believe in Illuminati there is no one left cabal planning to muzzle alt-right voices.
Fox news is the #1 News channel in america.
Now far-left is hypocritical af, I concede.
But FOE is not the hill to die on IMHO.

@Wetrix
Shutting down accounts due to inciting violence != censorship due to mild disagreement.
This is coming from someone who doesn't agree with the Trump twitter ban.
You can easily find alt-right accounts on all major platforms even today.
Agree with your point on monopolies tho.
That's what happens when the anti-trust legislation is weakened to be virtually toothless.

@enigmatico this is because almost everyone prefer comfort than security/quality/freedom.

You can say the same thing about gaming development, graphics design, sound, life and everything

People doesn't care a lot about security, freedom and more. They care if something is convenient

@gritnot Also you can have uncensored communities that are not privacy oriented- Parler for example.

@gritnot I like to think it's due to Whatsapp notifying everyone of their new privacy policy.
People in the US don't realize how massive Whatsapp's userbase is.
There are a Billion+ users just between Brazil and India.

@Wetrix it's just so hard to tell nowadays.
Things that seem commonplace are massively insidious and then there are large noisy nothingburgers.

@technoprenerd Holy smokes!
I have always known FB is bad, but everytime I look into the details it's even worse.
Whatsapp seems to be mainly relying on location and telemetrics. They'll then marry it with FB

@Wetrix I was reading through their policy.
Most of it is standard tech legalese but the "Facebook group of companies" part was confusing af.
If all of my messages are E2E encrypted then how are they gonna use anything I send?
Same Q for advertising.
