Hi. New to Mastodon & not sure if this is the correct way to post or if this is the correct place to post this question...In any event, I am looking for input into some apps that respect privacy. Specifically, I am looking for the following app types to replace some apps that do not respect privacy: 1) A calendar app; 2) A To-Do or action tracker app; 3) a Music app like Pandora that respects privacy. I would be willing to pay for an app if it doesn't track or steal my information. Any ideas?

@JJBraddock hello! I’d take a look at switching.software by @switchingsoftware for some ideas for app alternatives. They’re a really good resource.

There’s also alternativeto.net. Sharing your targeted OS for these alternatives would also help folx know what to recommend 🙂

Hello @andreas. I have an iphone but also use a windows computer at home. Thanks for your help!

@JJBraddock as an iOS user, I would shift to Apple's own Calendar.app and Reminders.app. No 3rd party tracking and under Apple's decent privacy policy. For an offline music app I'd take a look at the open-source VLC (apps.apple.com/us/app/vlc-for-, videolan.org/vlc/privacy.html). Else, the Apple Music app I think is a better choice than Spotify or Pandora, simply based on comparing privacy policies.

@JJBraddock
Some general advice. tosdr.org might help you avoiding services you don't like. switching.software might help you find software alternatives. Choose Free Software apps as much as possible.

1 + 2) you can run a calender service on a freedombox. On Android you can connect it with davx5 and etar. On your desktop you could connect it with Thunderbird. This might not be as user-friendly or easy but it might be worthwhile.

3) maybe jamendo??? Not sure.
