I am a trained hypnotist who used to offer hypnosis sessions.

This is my old website:

I never made a ton of money doing it so I let my certifications elapse.

But I see many people struggling and wonder if I couldn't help them.

The certs aren't strictly necessary- they're not a requirement.

Should I:

I should mention that I never found the certification material of the quality I would have hoped.

And the certification renewal process was that I had to attend an annual conference, which after travel and hotel, cost me about $1500-$2000.

I was very focused on not having "packages" of sessions. I felt most issues could be addressed in a single session instead, but that made it hard to make money.

With all those costs, I never actually made any money.

@emacsen Sounds like the typical certification scam.
Start up again WITHOUT the certs until you can make enough money.
Then get the certs and use them to pump up your perceived legitimacy to get even more profit.

They're not scams, they do provide *something*, but I'll give you an example of the kind of experience I had.

I was at a conference (the mandated one) and someone was talking about smoking succession, and a woman nearby took her book and looked up the exact script to use. We got into a conversation because I've never used any of their scripts.

She asked me what I do instead and I said that I find out what's important to the client, what

...what kind of imagery connect with them, what their values and goals are, and then create something on the fly based on what I think will resonate most with the client.

She looked at me as if I was from Mars, because she simply looks up in her book which page the script is and reads from it verbatim.

So it's not a scam, but it's not as helpful to me as it might be to someone else for sure.

Thanks for the feedback!
