The goal of this project should be less than or equal to $60 to $70 dollars total exclude the external hard drive because as the product requires the customer to supply their own hard drive.
Maybe this could be called a social privacy tools iCloud challenge

I'm not programmer or software engineer, I have mediocre to low skills of using Debian based Linux distros. I've setup my raspberry pi to be printer server and network adblocker. I'll give you some links on how to do it and how to setup your own cloud with Nextcloud, I believe you can do that on your own, take that as challenge, its not that hard :)
@nikolal your better than I. Your aspect on working out a way to make any of these projects would be worth their weight in gold. Please share your ideas directions and techniques.

companies offer you for 250+ dollars. What I lack here are some VPN guides but I haven't done them myself (yet). For that I recommend Wireguard, you can search for it, it has nice documentation you can use @FluhartyML

Fishy atleast. You can do all what this device can do with raspberry pi, adblocker, VPN and much more for price less than 60$ and with open source software.
