@kensanata After starting a new instance the *admin* should follow a lot ofusers on different instances in the network - so the messages can be seen in the network view. As admin on my own instance I try to follow "all" so their messages are imported.
Follow

@hikerus @kensanata @horsemans Thanks for sharing. This discussion shows the usability problems of Mastodon. Is an instance admin supposed to follow all its users so they see content? Relays fix it? I dont know to what degree. Should we install an autofollow bot for mastodon? Connecting users with each other should be easier. A social network relys on a feature like that.

@burunghantu "Is an instance admin supposed to follow all its users so they see content?" Not of his instance, they are in the local timeline.
"Connecting users with each other should be easier." Of course - that is the goal. But admins have more than this duty. If they want to get traffic in the federated timeline after installing a fresh new instance without any own users yet, it's a good thing to start to follow users in the network. @kensanata

@hikerus I'm not sure if I want to spend my day following users to make this work. I'd rather go hiking ;-)

Would this autofollow bot for example have the same effect? github.com/gled-rs/mastodon-au
